Methodology & Sources

Page notes

The seven household budgets were checked on 23 August 2026. This redesign changes their presentation, not their underlying expense rows. Ranges are illustrative and rounded outward; the calculator adds the exact entered expense lines.

Costs beyond the monthly total

Allow separately for arrival purchases, documents and other one-off setup costs. A recurring monthly range does not show the full cash needed to move.

Cash needed for a home

Check the actual lease for deposit, advance rent, payment dates and any agency fee. Refundable deposits tie up cash even when they are not a recurring expense.

Compare the largest choices first

Start with the home, commute and school plan, then refine everyday spending. Keep the household size and included costs consistent when comparing two scenarios.

How to read these examples

These are dated editorial planning scenarios, not city averages or current quotations. Confirm today’s rent, school fees, insurance and other charges before making commitments.
