China moves its weekends around its holidays. Each year the State Council publishes which days are off and which Saturdays or Sundays become working days (调休). Only some of the days off are statutory holidays (法定节假日), and the difference changes overtime pay. This page sets out both years and does the arithmetic.
Count working days two dates Estimate overtime pay wage and date Estimate annual leave years of work
The calendar and the calculators cover 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026. The State Council's 2027 holiday notice is not published as of 11 October 2026, so nothing here extends into 2027. The calculators give estimates from the national, Guangdong and Shenzhen rules. They assume a Monday-to-Friday week and leave out company rules, collective agreements and individual contracts, which can give more.
The 2025 and 2026 holiday calendar
Each break mixes three kinds of day. Statutory holidays (法定节假日) are the 13 days a year fixed by the national holiday Measures ↗; work on one is paid at least 300% of the daily wage, in addition to normal pay. The other days off in a break are not statutory holidays; where official guidance classes them, they are rest days (休息日), and work on one is paid at least 200% unless time off is given instead. Swapped working days are Saturdays or Sundays that the notice turns into working days (上班).
The 13 statutory days, in force since 1 January 2025:
- New Year's Day: 1 day (1 January)
- Spring Festival: 4 days (Lunar New Year's Eve and days 1 to 3 of the first lunar month)
- Qingming: 1 day (the day of the Qingming solar term)
- Labour Day: 2 days (1 and 2 May)
- Dragon Boat Festival: 1 day (lunar Duanwu day)
- Mid-Autumn Festival: 1 day (lunar Mid-Autumn day)
- National Day: 3 days (1 to 3 October)
When one of these falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Measures require a substitute day off on a working day. Measures on National Annual Holidays and Commemoration Days, as amended by State Council Decree 795 ↗

As of 11 October 2026 the State Council has not issued its 2027 holiday notice; the gov.cn list of recent policies still shows the 2026 notice as the latest. Past notices appeared between 25 October and 8 December of the year before; those are past dates, not a forecast. Until the notice appears, 2027 days off and swapped working days cannot be counted, so this tool stops at 31 December 2026. gov.cn latest policies list ↗
Smaller holidays
Not counted by the counter: half-day and group holidays.
- Women's Day (8 March): a half day off for women
- Youth Day (4 May): a half day off for young people aged 14 and over
- Children's Day (1 June): 1 day off for children under 14
- Army Day (1 August): a half day off for active-duty military personnel
Employees who work as normal on these days are paid their wages but no overtime pay; if one falls on a Saturday or Sunday there is no substitute day, and rest-day pay is due if work is arranged. In 2026, 8 March is a Sunday, 4 May falls inside the Labour Day break and 1 August is a Saturday. Shenzhen HRSS: pay on partial-citizen holidays ↗ Measures on National Annual Holidays and Commemoration Days, as amended by State Council Decree 795 ↗
No Guangdong or Shenzhen document was found that adds to or changes the national calendar; the national Measures leave local governments only ethnic-minority festivals in minority areas. That search was not exhaustive. Measures on National Annual Holidays and Commemoration Days, as amended by State Council Decree 795 ↗
Count working days between two dates
Both dates are included. A working day is a Monday to Friday outside the holiday breaks, plus each swapped Saturday or Sunday. Dates must fall between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2026.
The count assumes a Monday-to-Friday week. Employers may set other weekly rest days, and no official text says how the swapped working days apply to them or to shift workers. State Council Regulation on Working Hours of Employees (Decree 146), Shenzhen HRSS copy ↗
For comparison, the official annual figure of 248 working days comes from a fixed formula (365 days − 104 rest days − 13 statutory holidays) used for every year, not from counting the calendar. MOHRSS notice on average monthly working time and wage conversion (Ren She Bu Fa [2025] No. 2) ↗
Estimate overtime pay
Enter the monthly wage for normal working hours in your contract. The estimator turns it into a daily wage (÷ 21.75) and an hourly wage (÷ 21.75 ÷ 8), as the 2025 national conversion notice sets, and applies the rate for the date you pick. MOHRSS notice on average monthly working time and wage conversion (Ren She Bu Fa [2025] No. 2) ↗
On a working day, enter only the hours beyond the normal 8-hour day. On a rest day or a statutory holiday, enter all the hours worked.
The rules the estimator applies
- Working day, hours beyond the normal day: at least 150% of the hourly wage. Labour Law of the People's Republic of China ↗ Shenzhen Regulation on the Payment of Employee Wages (text as amended 5 December 2025) ↗
- Rest day: at least 200%, or time off in lieu instead. Labour Law of the People's Republic of China ↗
- Statutory holiday: at least 300% of the daily or hourly wage, paid in addition to the normal pay for the holiday. Time off cannot replace it, and no official text states a combined total. MOHRSS General Office notice on implementing the amended holiday Measures (Ren She Ting Han [2025] No. 1) ↗ Shenzhen HRSS: does statutory-holiday overtime pay include normal pay? ↗
- Swapped working day: no official text addresses its rate. The notice only calls it a working day (上班); the estimator applies the working-day rule, which is an inference. State Council General Office notice on the 2026 holidays (Guo Ban Fa Ming Dian [2025] No. 7) ↗
- Comprehensive hours (综合计算工时): hours above the standard over the whole averaging period count as extended hours, at least 150%. In Shenzhen, work on a statutory holiday is paid at least 300%. Provisional Provisions on Wage Payment (Lao Bu Fa [1994] No. 489) ↗ Shenzhen HRSS: holiday pay under comprehensive hours ↗
- Non-fixed hours (不定时): the national overtime rates do not apply. Shenzhen still requires at least 300% for work on a statutory holiday. Provisional Provisions on Wage Payment (Lao Bu Fa [1994] No. 489) ↗ Shenzhen HRSS: holiday pay under non-fixed hours ↗
- Base: in Shenzhen, the normal working-time wage agreed in the contract, never below the Shenzhen minimum wage in force on the date: ¥2,360 until 28 February 2025; ¥2,520 from 1 March 2025 to 31 August 2026; ¥2,700 from 1 September 2026. No text read sets a ceiling, or says whether bonuses or meal and transport subsidies belong in the base. - Limits: extended hours are generally 1 hour a day, at most 3 for special reasons, and no more than 36 a month; the emergencies the Labour Law lists are exempt. Labour Law of the People's Republic of China ↗
- Rounding: no official rule; this estimator rounds only the final amount to the fen.
Estimate statutory annual leave
Paid annual leave starts after 12 months or more of continuous work, with the same or different employers. The days depend on cumulative working years: 5 days from 1 year, 10 from 10 years, 15 from 20 years. Statutory holidays and rest days inside the leave are not counted as leave days. Regulation on Paid Annual Leave for Employees (State Council Decree 514) ↗ Shenzhen HRSS: what 12 months of continuous work means ↗
The rules the estimator applies
- New joiner who already has 12 months of continuous work: (remaining calendar days with the employer in the year ÷ 365) × full entitlement; part of a day is not granted. Implementing Measures on Paid Annual Leave for Enterprise Employees (MOHRSS Decree 1) ↗
- Leaving: (calendar days already passed with the employer ÷ 365) × full entitlement − leave already taken; part of a day is not paid, and leave taken beyond that is not clawed back. Implementing Measures on Paid Annual Leave for Enterprise Employees (MOHRSS Decree 1) ↗
- The divisor is 365 even in a leap year. Counting both the first and the last day follows published Shenzhen arbitration awards; no official text sets it, nor whether the part-day cut comes before or after subtracting leave taken, so with half days taken the result is a range. Shenzhen arbitration award, 2023 cases 9535 and 12050 (a new joiner’s leave) ↗ Shenzhen arbitration award, 2022 case 8372 (leave of an employee who left) ↗
- The year in which 12 months of continuous work are first completed: no rule sets that year’s leave. If you enter the date the 12 months were completed, the estimator counts from that day, as a published Shenzhen award did; without it, it counts from 1 January. Shenzhen arbitration award, 2023 case 9922 (leave in the year 12 months of continuous work were completed) ↗ Implementing Measures on Paid Annual Leave for Enterprise Employees (MOHRSS Decree 1) ↗
- No leave for the year: winter or summer vacation longer than the entitlement; 20 or more days of personal leave with no pay deducted; cumulative sick leave of 2 months or more (1 to under 10 years), 3 months or more (10 to under 20) or 4 months or more (20 and over). Regulation on Paid Annual Leave for Employees (State Council Decree 514) ↗
- Untaken leave the employee agreed to: 300% of the daily wage per day, which includes the normal pay already received for working that day, so 200% on top. Daily wage = average monthly wage over the 12 months before payment, excluding overtime, ÷ 21.75. If the employee declines leave in writing for personal reasons, only normal pay is due. Implementing Measures on Paid Annual Leave for Enterprise Employees (MOHRSS Decree 1) ↗
- A contract, collective agreement or company rules that give more days or more pay prevail over these minimums. Implementing Measures on Paid Annual Leave for Enterprise Employees (MOHRSS Decree 1) ↗

These points have no official answer in the texts read on 11 October 2026. Where an estimator relies on one of them, its result names the assumption it uses.
