Day trips from Shenzhen
Shenzhen’s real luxury is what sits within an hour of it. Border, ferry, mountain-access and parking arrangements change, especially around holidays and severe weather. Confirm the relevant operator or park notice the week you go.
- Hong Kong

Shenzhen Bay Port has both checkpoints under one roof. The pedestrian crossings at Futian and Luohu shut for part of the night, and the rebuilt Huanggang port had not reopened as of August 2026, with no opening date announced — check it before planning around anyone telling you otherwise. - Guangzhou
Details & planning
The easiest full day out of the city — an older place with a food culture Shenzhen does not have. Allow 30–40 minutes at Shenzhen North, and use a staffed window the first time — foreign passports are still processed manually at some gates.
- Macau and Zhuhai, by ferry
Details & planning
Shekou and Fuyong run different services, and neither should be treated as an automatic backup for the other. Routes are re-timetabled and rough weather cancels them, so check the operator’s live schedule for your terminal. The Fuyong–Macao Taipa route resumed in June 2026; confirm its current frequency before relying on it.
- Wutong Mountain梧桐山

The serious walk, and the one that makes people realise how much of this city is hill. There is no general timed-entry booking rule for pedestrians; check current park notices, weather closures, and vehicle or parking controls if you plan to drive.
- Fairy Lake Botanical Garden仙湖植物园
Details & planning
The gentle half of the same corner of the city, and the right answer when somebody does not want a thousand metres of stairs. The official garden site lists free-entry windows from 06:00–08:00 and 18:00–21:30; parking reservations and weather closures are separate from pedestrian admission. Pair it with Donghu Park and the reservoir.
- Mission Hills, Guanlan观澜湖

The restaurants and resort facilities are open to people who have never held a club, which makes this a plausible day out rather than a members’ enclosure. Close enough to the printmaking village to make one day of the north.
A day on the eastern coast
A beach day is still a day trip: leave time for the return journey.

Where Shenzhen goes to the sea properly, and where the city’s beach-resort hotels are — see the hotels page. An hour each way in summer traffic for a crowded beach is a poor trade; a pleasure if you stay the night.
- Surfing at Xichong西涌
Details & planning
Dapeng’s official visitor guide identifies No. 4 as the surfing beach. Use the destination 西涌沙滩4号门 when arranging your meeting point; this is not 溪涌, the similarly named Xichong metro stop. See the official Xichong beach guide.
For public transport, the district lists a connection via Dapeng or Nan’ao to M232. Confirm the current stop, final transfer and return service against the official access directions and your instructor’s location pin.
- Surfing at Dongchong东涌

For another surf destination, the official coastal guide also lists Dongchong as a destination for surfers. Ask a local instructor whether the current conditions suit your experience before choosing it. Being close to Xichong does not mean the waves, access arrangements or available lessons will be the same.
